Baby number three positive birth story

Going into my third pregnancy I kept hearing, “third births are tricky.”

Last thing I wanted was for this to get in my head.

If you’ve heard someone say that, too, then I’m here to give you a positive birth story from a third birth.

Positive third birth

The lead up

My due date was the 11/12/24.

On the afternoon of the 10th I felt something change. Braxton hicks were stronger and more regular. My stomach was like a basket ball under my coat!

I made dinner and got everything ready for the girls for the next day. I really thought things were going to ramp up that night.

After a rather restless night, I woke on 11/12 with no more signs.

However, as the day went on, the Braxton Hicks continued and were accompanied by a stomach ache.

I couldn’t even finish my coffee!

That evening we had roast veggies for dinner. I had extra potato, just in case I needed the energy.

The evening

I sent Matt up to bed after trying and failing to sleep myself.

I put on Fresh Meat on Netflix and chilled out. I ate some Shreddies and chocolates, too.

At 230 I called the hospital as the contractions were every 5 minutes. Which I know isn’t close enough to go in really, but I had a quick birth with my second so they asked me to come in.

Me and Matt made a plan to go to 24 hour Tesco if she sent us home.

I was 4cm and still having contractions every 5 mins. The midwife gave me a sweep and it was the oddest sensation. I burst into tears! Then Matt did too, and neither of us knew why we were crying. Maybe it was being back in that room, knowing what was ahead of us.

Post sweep and in the birth room, the contractions really ramped up.

God bless the birth comb! I didn’t let go of it for 2 and a half hours!

After listening to music, dancing a little, banging the floor with my feet and lots of gas and air, I started feeling the need to push around 6amish. The midwife was so wonderful, she left me to it and said go with your body. And the occasional, well done.

The hands off approach was just what I wanted.

At 6.21 he was born.

And perfect!

This little man is my third. With the girls I think I was too shocked to cry. With this man my emotions were enormous.

We’re so glad he’s here 💜✨☀️

Things I’m glad I packed

  • Birth comb
  • Personal fan
  • Wash cloth
  • Sliders
  • Lavender oil
  • Sweets! (Though not enough, we had to go to the vending machine)
  • Speaker

Check what else I packed in my hospital bag in my blog, and see the things I didn’t bother with.
