Gift ideas for 5 year olds

I’m in the thick of it. Class parties.

My eldest started school in September and there’s been plenty of party invites rolling into her book bag and my WhatsApp.

Five seems to be the age when kids start asking for parties. Ida has has whole day planned, and I’m sure she’s not the only one.

Lots of party invites means buying lots of gifts.

What do you buy a 5 year old you don’t know? I find it easy to buy something for my friends five year olds, but a stranger is tough. I let Ida pick and she just chooses something she’d like.

Here are a few gift ideas for 5 year olds (5 year olds you don’t know!)

Dress up sticker book

As a parent, I’m happy for Ida to get these. They make no mess, keep them occupied, and it’s a nice activity to do together. The dolly dress up books are always a hit. They cost around £7-10.

You Choose Book

Books can be a little tricky as you don’t know if the child already has it. The You Choose books are a great option as the little one can look at the pictures and create a story for a chilled bedtime activity. Me and Ida like deciding what we’re going to wear on our adventure and how we’re going to get there. You can always put the reciept in with the book. Buy them here.

Who Did This Poo

This is a game all 5 year olds will love. Why are they obsessed with poo? There’s also a poo matching game that will be a hit. Buy it here.

Kids cookbook

The parents might not thank you too much for this one, but it’s a good way to get kids cooking. You could even buy moulds from Amazon, a cake mix, and some decorations and make a little hamper for baking.

LCD Scribble Board

These are great. Perfect for the car or travelling. Much better than the old school magna doodle. Buy them here.

Scratch art

I loved these as a kid and so does Ida. You can pick them up fairly cheap, too.

Paint sticks

Paint sticks are washable, no mess, and great fun. They create some excellent pictures.

Seeds

Sunflower seeds and a little plant pot is always a lovely idea as it also gives you activity to do with the kids.
