My must haves for third baby

When I had my first baby, the nursery furniture was up and the room decorated when I still had three months to go.

I had a clothes rail FULL of clothes.

I had a baby monitor on ALL the time. A room temperature egg. A pram rocker hooked up. A travel system pushchair including bassinet. Every size and tog sleeping bag you might possibly need.

Second time around, I halved my stuff. I cut the clothes down as I found having so many overwhelming. I dressed Martha only in baby grows for 8 months, maybe longer. She slept in a Moses basket at the bottom of our bed, then the next to me, then we eventually got her a cot in our room, too.

For baby number three, I’ve learned what I really need, and what I absolutely do not. In this post, I look at my must haves for a third baby.

First, here are five things I won’t buy for my third baby.

  1. Rockit. Some people love it. I found that it never really kept my girls asleep, or it ran out of battery at crucial points. I’d rather just rock the push chair if needed.
  2. Egg room temperature. We got obsessed with the colours. If Ida had a good night we said it was the temperature and would try to recreate the exact night, and temp, again. While you obviously don’t want your baby to be too hot or cold, you’ll get to know the right number of layers. Also, lots of camera monitors have a temp dial on.
  3. Outfits. Yep, they’re cute. But, they aren’t always practical to change. Also, how amazing does a baby look in a baby grow. Just can’t beat it.
  4. The bassinet. I hated it. So bulky. I’ll be getting a pram that lies flat for a newborn. To be honest, Ida and Marfs mainly went in the sling. With three under five, I will likely need my hands free so the sling will really come into its own.
  5. A breast pump. I never got on with it and hated the noise. I hated sitting down feeding then also having to pump. I’m a restless person! The Hakka was great, but only in the first month or two.

Here are five must haves for my third baby

  1. A running/offroad buggy that lies flat. These off roader buggies have so much more longevity than my mammas and papas one. While the Ocaro is a great pushchair, my 2 year old is already growing out of it! My friend has the out and about and her four year old still fits in it comfortably. Update: I found the Hauck Runner on Facebook for £45!
  2. A decent carrier. The wrap sling I have is incredible, however, I only ever use it until the baby is about 3 months. When they’re heavier, you need more support. I borrowed a friends Ergo Baby for Martha and loved it.
  3. Second hand. The pushchair, clothes, toys. I’ll buy it all from charity shops and Vinted.
  4. Love to Dream Swaddle. These are the swaddles where the babies arms are up by its head. They look so cosy all tucked into these. The swaddle blankets are a bit of a pain, too. So I look forward to trying these!
  5. A Skip Hop Pronto. These things go into the nappy bag and help you be more organised. Or, you can take it out without a huge nappy bag. They’re big enough to fit a few nappies, spare outfit, wipes, and cream.
