Non UPF flapjacks for kids

Non UPF flapjack recipe kids will love.

I know you’re busy, and I know that for Google to like my Flapjacks recipe I’ll probably have to put an entire essay of content up here about the best method, things to watch out for, where to buy every ingredient. How you can meet the Pope.

But I’m not going to do that. You’ve probably got your apron on, a keen and impatient child nearby, and are already frustrated that your screen keeps going to sleep.

So let’s get into it.

(If you want to know more about UPF flapjacks and what’s in them, scroll down. I’ll look at what’s in some of the packaged options.)

Non UPF flapjack recipe

Ingredients

  • 250g porridge oats
  • 50g butter
  • 75g peanut butter (For peanut allergies, swap for butter, or coconut oil works nicely too)
  • 25g brown sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons of honey (not suitable for kids under 1 though!)

Optional but exceptional

  • Seeds
  • Raisins
  • Chunks of chocolate if you want! (Montezuma’s Smooth Operator Organic doesn’t contain anything weird.)

Method

  1. Melt the butter, peanut butter, brown sugar and honey in a pan.
  2. 2.Pour in the oats and any other dry optional ingredients.
  3. Mix well.
  4. Once combined, press the flapjack firmly into a pre greased dish. I like a 2 person lasagne dish for this.
  5. Put in the oven for 15-20 minutes at 180 degrees.
  6. Leave to cool FULLY. If you don’t it basically turns into granola. You have been warned.

How to store

Keep these in an air tight container and they’ll taste good for about a week. You can also freeze them for a month.

If they last that long…

Let me know what you think of these peanut butter non UPF flapjacks!

NON UPF Flapjacks

What are UPF flapjacks?

UPF flapjacks are mass made flapjacks that are packed with unusual ingredients, as a rule, things you wouldn’t find in your kitchen. Or even the shop.

McVities Hobnobs Milk Chocolate Oaty Flapjacks are delicious. And I’m not surprised they are. They’re packed with ingredients that make us want to eat more. The packaging is bright and colourful.

Here’s what’s in them:

Wholegrain Rolled Oats (39%), Golden Syrup (Partially Inverted Sugar Syrup) (13%), Glucose-Fructose Syrup, Sugar, Vegetable Oils (Palm, Rapeseed), Milk Chocolate (8%) [Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Mass, Dried Skimmed Milk, Dried Whey (Milk), Butter Oil (Milk), Vegetable Fats (Palm, Shea), Emulsifiers (Soya Lecithin, E476), Natural Flavouring], Butter (Milk) (5%), Wholemeal Wheat Flour, Partially Inverted Sugar Syrup, Emulsifier (E471), Flour (Wheat Flour, Calcium, Iron, Niacin, Thiamin), Salt, Raising Agents (Sodium Bicarbonate, Ammonium Bicarbonate), Contains 20% Hobnobs Biscuit pieces

A world away from the 5 or 6 ingredients you can make a home.
